The GREEN Program: Iceland - Sustainability and Renewable Energy Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learnt a lot about renewable energy from not only classes but through power plants too. The program gave me a really good idea about the nuances of the field and how geology also plays a huge role in the world's changes which was a new aspect to me.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The course had the perfect amount of academic rigor to encourage further study.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The mentors, the guides and anyone else involved on site were amazing. They treated us with the warmth of a family.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Hjardarbol. Period.

* Food:

As a vegetarian, i was surprised at the amount of vegetarian options available. I loved the food, it was unexpectedly one of the many highlights of the trip for me. PS, the desserts are to die for.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

"How do you get out of an Icelandic forest? Just stand up"

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

For the adventure minded crazy folk, when it comes to safety be warned. The mentors and guides will try to stop you from exploring as the huldufolk and trolls in the highlands wake up at night ready to eat you up. Well they're pretty strict and experienced with the landscape.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

We had to pay a prefixed amount for the 10 days, that covered all our requirements.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
