The GREEN Program: Iceland - Sustainability and Renewable Energy Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained too much to express in a short paragraph. I grew so much as a personal it's hard to believe. It was without a doubt worthwhile.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The academic component of this program was awesome. Not stressful, yet still informative and required you to work. Professors at RU were incredible people, and definitely knew their stuff. The capstone project was more fun than you could imagine, and it was amazing to see what my group as well as other groups were able to create.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Amazing. The leaders of the program were three of the most inspiring and incredible people I've ever met, and they truly played a large role in why it was such an awesome experience.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Living in various hostels throughout Iceland was definitely an experience, and a great one at that. The administrators of the hostel were friendly, and almost treated us like family.

* Food:

Fresh, delicious, and often traditional Icelandic.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt comfortable within hours. Some of the most friendly people I've ever met.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The administrators were very concerned with safety, but not to the extent where they were paranoid. Reasonably cautious, and made everyone feel safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Approximately $30.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? No additional money had to be spent, only if you wanted souvenirs or additional food.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
