The American University of Rome: Rome - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I realized that learning the language is the best way to make your abroad experience worthwhile. Even with the basic Italian I knew, I was able to better integrate into the culture. But the most important thing I gained was confidence. It is very rewarding to realize that you can figure out everything on your own as well as travel on your own.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

All of my professors were qualified and passionate about what they were teaching.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My apartment was spacious, had all the promised amenities and was close to public transportation and the university.

* Food:

Italy has incredible food options. There are places to get coffee everywhere and every corner has pizza/pasta, etc. I mostly cooked for myself during the week and went out on weekends.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I participated in a Language exchange, where I was able to meet some wonderful Italians.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Never needed services.

* Safety:

The university always had guards outside the entrance. Rome overall felt very safe, even at night.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
