SUNY Geneseo: Kumasi - Global Health in Ghana

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I would go back to Ghana to visit my students in a heart beat but not under the SUNY Geneseo program. It really needs to get more organized and concise.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

There was no organization/connection between the school of ed. and the study abroad. We were in the dark about the trip until we got there.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Lack of organization. Last supervisor was not necessary and very unprofessional with bringing his daughter along. Could have used the money for more cultural excursions but instead our money was used to fund his vacation with his daughter.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

ukivovu

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

----------

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Overall safety was a clear priority for the first two supervisors Dr. Schwartz and Hall. however McClure was told by a local professor to get certain students to the hospital to be checked for malaria and he failed to do so even though he was reminded repeatedly.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Had to spend a lot of my own personal money to get by for the first few weeks.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? ------------
