France Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I loved it mostly for my host family. My french improved greatly and I learned that I absolutely LOVE trains! Because of my experience there, I've become less afraid of being independent and am less afraid of the big world than I was.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Your family provides everything! You might have to buy a phone, but my family provided mine for me.

* Food:

French food is kind of all the same ofter a while but that's no big deal! If you have any dietary restrictions, the program works it out for you so it's no problem.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

There were always a lot of events and trips (chateaux around Tours, trips to Brittany and Normandy, soccer games, hockey games, etc.)

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We never had any issues but the program made available everyone's number in case of an emergency.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

I practiced with everyone, everywhere (except with my fellow Americans)! Very few in Nantes speak English and all of my classes were conducted in French.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
