China Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes this study aboard was worthwhile. I learned so much about Eastern Medicine and just about the students that go to the universities in China.

Personal Information

If you took classes at multiple universities, list those universities here: Chengdu Sports University, Changzhi Medical College, Beijing Sports Univerisity

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The houseing varied throughout the trip. In Chengdu, we stayed in the international dorms which was like a hotel. In Changzhi, we stayed in a very nice hotel. Lastly in Beijing, we stayed in the international dorm which was closer to an American style dorm.

* Food:

Every meal is Chinese. The university did try to westernize some of the foods.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Money was really not needed on food or activities, but I spent about 250 on gift and shopping.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Things are inexpensive to buy in China but they add up in the end.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
Language acquisition improvement?

This was only a 2 week study aboard, so language was not a large part of the trip.
