SIT Study Abroad: IHP - Cities in the 21st Century: People, Planning and Politics (Fall 2)

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned so much from the people I met throughout this semester. Every minute was worthwhile. I learned a lot from each of my classes about urban studies, local and global politics, planning trends, etc., but even more so about how the decisions that are made in high-level offices can and do impact the lived experiences of people of all social, economic, cultural, political, religious groups.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'

Contemporary Urban Issues

Course Department: Geography
Instructor: Juan Arbona
Instruction Language: English
Comments: An incredible experience. Very immersive. I chose to study community improvements in informal settlements in each city, and I met amazing people and learned so, so much from them - more than I ever would have in a classroom setting. Juan was a great advisor, and pushed me to think more critically, and more broadly and focused at the same time!
