SIT Study Abroad: China - Health, Environment, and Traditional Chinese Medicine

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes! I gained insight into the heterogeneity of Chinese culture which is often masked in Western discourses.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The instruction could have been more rigorous intellectually but it was still interesting.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program has been around for awhile with a single director so it is well established.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Mainly lived in a dorm on a college campus, about 3 weeks of home stay altogether.

The dorms were cold and concrete but were fine. I had to sleep on the living room couch of my homestay family but that was an interesting experience in and of itself!

* Food:

Lots of chille peppers + goat cheese! Delicious.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I loved this program, mainly because of the freedom that students have to explore one of the most fascinating provinces in China.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Not very much.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Beginner
Language acquisition improvement?
