Sea Education Association: Colonization to Conservation in the Caribbean

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
SEA was a fantastic program. My best friend and two of siblings have done it since I sailed. My fear of heights and of the ocean have been turned around to a love for both. This trip taught me what it was like to really be human and connect with others. I now know how a team should operate better than any team-building exercise could have ever taught me. This program changed my life and made me a better person.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

This program grades you on your passion and willingness. It was very difficult at times and very rewarding at times. The professors are there with you every step of the way and have become respected figures in my life after SEA. I learned more than I thought I did and am still realized it years later.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Anything I needed, I would ask for, and they would help me. No problems at all.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing was average but implemented process for living was awesome. The way the houses were run was very comfortable and prepared all of us to be on a boat together. It was obvious that this was not their first rodeo.

* Food:

I got to learn to cook lots of dishes I would not have thought of on my own. They mixture of people taught me some very cool food ideas.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The staff was strict on safety but without going overboard. (No pun intended.) Every rule had a reason and were implemented with respect and therefore, the students respected the rules and the staff orders.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
