Rollins College: Sydney - Rollins in Sydney

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My experience was very worthwhile. Not only did I gain cultural awareness and grow personally but I became great friends with Rollins students I would have never met otherwise.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Teaching was mainly lectures and then papers. However the each professor's interest and enthusiasm plus the many fun field trips made the academic experience fantastic!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My host family was terrific! They were very nice and the home was in a great area. It was a 45 minute bus ride to Uni but only a 15 minute walk to the beach.

* Food:

My host mother was a great cook and dinners were always delicious. Uni has a pretty decent food court selection.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The trip to Central Australia and Uluru in the first month was terrific and allowed our group to really come together and get to know each other.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I never had any safety concerns in the city however it is a big city and caution should be taken like anywhere else.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? They gave us $60 a week for lunch and that was more than enough. If you're smart you a save some of that for weekend fun.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Remember that you will likely be getting a cell phone and possibly paying monthly for internet. Start saving for the two week spring break when you can do some traveling.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
