Czech it Out Past Review

Palacky University: Olomouc - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was sweet, tried new things, visited places I've always wanted to see, met new people.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Do the classes really need to start at 8:30 if we are done by 11? The last paper on top of our independent study was a complete surprise and quite frankly a joke. There wasn't really a good point to it since we were already doing weekly journals.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Martin and Jan were sweet. Seemed to know absolutely everything about the sites we visited.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

It was a pretty standard dorm. Not great but it worked. Only one ethernet jack in the room but I wasn't really expecting Silicon Valley.

* Food:

I loved the foreign food. Czech food isn't crazily different than NE food so no GI problems, getting to experience new types was cool.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The social scene is on a whole different level, and by different I mean bigger and better.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

We used common sense and never felt like we were going to be harmed or our stuff stolen.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I spend about $3000 over the $6500 for the program, and I was one of the more frugal ones. Might want to make this more clear.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

I enjoyed our Czech class, it encouraged diversity but they knew we were their to learn from experience and not lectures, which was awesome.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
