Oxbridge Academic Programs: Oxford - The Oxford Tradition

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a lot of independence from this trip. Although it was hard to adjust to the changes in the beginning, I had a great time after the first few days. I gained experience with money, friendships, and self control.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

My academic experience at the Oxford Tradition was definitely one I will never forget. While the course did not completely take up all my free time, I did have occasional homework and reading to do after each class. The class was intense, but not as much as I had anticipated. We were given a notebook on the first day, but it fell apart the fourth time I used it.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everyone on staff was incredibly kind and was always there for me when I needed help. They were a great tool for finding good recourses and every week I always went to them to find a new place to eat.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I stayed in the Thomas Building located in the Corpus Christi College. This building was in great shape and I only had to walk a short flight of stairs up to my room every day. My room came with two beds, a sink, a mirror, a closet, and a beautiful view of a church. Although the rooms didn't have toilets located directly in the rooms, the building had four full bathrooms and a kitchen!

* Food:

The food at Corpus Christi was outstanding. The staff was extremely nice and friendly, and the food itself was good. We had a wide range of meals throughout the weeks. We had hot breakfast three days per week, and the rest of the days included yogurt, cereal, tea, coffee and other breakfast items. The dinners were always cooked to perfection, and they always had a food that everyone would like.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I was sick the first few days of the program due to the stress of traveling. The staff was very understanding and told me where to access the medicine that I needed.

* Safety:

I felt very safe during my stay. They locked the college at night and the dorms were inaccessible without an electronic key. The city seemed very safe and as a woman I was not scared to walk around at night.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I think that this program is great if you are looking for a fun, pre-college experience.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Since the food was so good at Corpus Christi, I did not need to buy any extra meals other than lunch daily. You will save a lot of money by eating the food they provide.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $120
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Set aside money for personal items, and eat the meals you are given in the morning and at night! Even if you are not a breakfast eater, save your money and grab an apple before you go to class.

Comments: This course was challenging and the teacher was very educated on the subject. He was always eager to teach us something new and worked hard to ensure that we were learning the material. Oxford was the best place possible to take this class due to the amount of rich history located in the area.
