By (Wellesley College) - abroad from 02/16/2016 to 06/10/2016 with

Monash University: Melbourne - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I took care of myself more than any other time, because I had to cook for myself and take public transportation all the time, as well as planning my own travel and vacations. It was definitely worthwhile.

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Monash was not very helpful in terms of administrative help, with study abroad, or otherwise.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in housing on Monash campus. Because I was living in the old dorms, the facilities were fairly run down.

* Food:

Everybody cooked for themselves

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Because I was living on halls, i met a lot of local students.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

I didn't know Monash was so far away from the city of Melbourne, and might have chosen a university in the city itself.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Melbourne is fairly expensive to live in.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Probably around 100, maybe a little less.

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
