Living with a host family is probably the best decision a study abroad student can make. It helps ease the transition into society and they're also a great support system!

We signed a language oath and contract. We could only speak Spanish to our host family, Chileans, school companions and between the members of the group.

Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Never give up! It may seem overwhelming at first, but continuing to speak the native language in various situations really does help improve vocabulary and fluency.

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? To be more open and willing to adapt to the culture. There was a clash of Latin@ customs that I allowed to be domineering.
