By (University of Hong Kong) - abroad from 07/01/2018 to 08/05/2018 with

Korea University: Seoul - International Summer Campus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
A lot of international and local friends there. A lot of fun activities and nights hanging out. Really worth a summer time!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The program is very inclusive, introducing me to not only the academic side of Korean culture, but full of hands-on experience like cultural performance, dancing performance, perfect buddy group granting me the chance to taste a really "local uni student" lifestyle. Surprise seminar with KPOP stars really add bonus points for the whole study.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Clear guidance of hall admission, transportation, mini local tours as well as well organized cultural immersion activities.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I can't express how I like my hall more! There are 2 huge kitchens each floor, with really neat rooms with regular cleaning service. The environment is really good, convenient and quiet. You can even use the study room on your same floor, what a hall!

* Food:

Quality food in reasonable price, they serve you with traditional / local foods, as well as foreign food to match your personal taste. Of course I will recommend you trying Korean food there.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Buddy Group programme is perfect, I build strong bond with my buddy there, and the group keeps active after we left. Really a good way to make new friends

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

They provide you with great health care in the campus. I don't get the chance to see a doctor but you are well assured for personal health and safety. They have literally a hospital right next to the campus, which is also under the same uni.

* Safety:

Korea is safe, don't bother about the North Korean threat, you can't feel anything in SK.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

The wholesome experience of being a Korean, and study in the top uni of Korea. Definitely a good feeling.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not too expensive to live in Korea

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $150
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't go to Gangnam Clubs if you have tight budgets, go to Hongdae instead. Korean food is generally cheaper than in the States, no worries.
