About
The KIIS summer program in Italy is a four-week program that begins in Florence, a beautiful Tuscan city situated on the banks of the Arno River, and then moves to the country's magnificent capital, Rome.
Students spend the first three weeks in Florence. With plenty of time to explore the city and integrate their experiences with their courses, students will make Florence their most memorable classroom. Students are within walking distance of the most famous museums and sites in Italy's Renaissance capital-- the Uffizi galleries, the Bargello, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, and many others. The train and bus stations are also nearby, making day or weekend excursions to cities like Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo, Cortona, and San Gimignano a breeze. Students are always encouraged to share their Tuscan discoveries and experiences with the group.
The program then moves to Rome by bus for the final six days. During their time in one of the world's great cities, students have the opportunity to observe firsthand the diverse and nuanced layers of Italian cultural and artistic history. One stroll through this cosmopolitan capital and students will marvel at the breathtaking display of Classical, Renaissance, Baroque and Modern art and architecture. The Roman Forum and Colosseum, the Catacombs and the Vatican, Michelangelo and Caravaggio, Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spagna... Rome indulges all your senses.
Although knowledge of Italian is not required for this program, students with some language proficiency will be able to improve their speaking skills as well as their knowledge of Italian culture through interactions with locals and explorations of diverse regions of this spectacular country.
