I learned about a lot, not just about Japan's culture, but I learned more about myself. Who I am as a person. holly h - Berea College View Entire Review
This study abroad trip was not always smooth sailing. There were many times when I was scared or homesick, but knowing what I know now, I would gladly put myself through all that again without a second thought. Going on this trip not only helped me grow academically, but also personally. It helped me mature and gain confidence i... A student - Eastern Illinois University View Entire Review
As my first time being abroad, it was an incredible experience. Being able to learn about a whole other culture and then through that learn about my own. Classes about pop culture, religion, language, and even the Japanese koto and music were all incredibly interesting and I learned a lot. I also experienced all kinds of new foo... How to respect the spaces of others, especially with people who have different cultural values than you. Alanna Rizzotti - University of Hartford View Entire Review
It's difficult to condense everything from my year abroad. I certainly learned a lot about myself and my capacity to deal with ambiguous situations or seek help from others. I did learning in the classroom, but much of the application happens outside of the classroom and both pieces were important. My study abroad experience sha... I had a great cultural experience. I learned a lot about Japan and Japanese people and customs. Also, this experience sparked a greater interest in the Japanese language for me. I also gained a greater appreciation for Japan as well as my home country. Nicole W - Kansai Gaidai University View Entire Review

I can't even begin think about what I learned from this. Was it worthwhile? Yes. Every minute of it. A student - Tufts University View Entire Review
I learned about what it REALLY means to live a life filled with riches. No, not money, not praise. But the "wealth" found in happiness, in examples of kindness, and human decency. So my answer is, Yes- absolutely, my experience abroad was worth while. Summer K - University of Hartford View Entire Review

It was absolutely worthwhile. I gained a global perspective. I learned what its like to be a foreigner in a new country. I learned whats its like to not be able to communicate to the people around you. I learned what its like to be part of a 'we' instead of an 'I'. I learned much more than what be put into words, but I know that... A student - Point Loma Nazarene University View Entire Review
I learned the Japanese language, the Japanese culture, and I learned about myself and my own interests, sense of independence, and more. I felt that it was very worthwhile. It was the experience of a lifetime and I wish I could do it all over again. Shannon W - Villanova University View Entire Review
I learned that I really do enjoy the Japanese culture, and it is fun learning and practicing the language. I also learned to humble myself to participate in the culture. Of course, I gained friendships, an open-mind, and a desire to go back. A student - University of Northern Iowa View Entire Review
I was able to learn about many cultures, not just Japan. I also got the chance to understand the culture a lot more by living it rather than hearing about it. There's some things you don't learn about by just watching television shows or reading books about it. A student - Illinois State University View Entire Review
Self-actualization and networking are paramount to success. You must not rely on other people or a program to have a good experience. I gained several of the best opportunities of my life. But, this was from networking outside of the university. If you study abroad and you just stay on campus, then you will squander the rare opp... One of the greatest skills I learned was how to travel and manage my own experience. I had so few field trips that I made sure to travel as much as I could, which forced me to plan ahead and budget, but also to jump on chances to go new places that weren't exactly planned for but were still worthwhile to see. With the ease of tr... A student - Berea College View Entire Review

I gained a deeper insight on what I want to do in life and my next step in my academic career. I also learned so much about Japanese culture that I would never had learned if I did not go to Japan. I also gained the ability to be more confident in myself. This study abroad trip was indeed worthwhile. A student - Berea College View Entire Review
I learned to move outside my comfort zone, how to cook for myself better, general self-sufficiency, and how to navigate Japan without too much trouble. Peter M - Clark University - Worcester View Entire Review
I learned A LOT about the culture/ the people. I had an image of Japan before I went, and it was definitely altered. I actually left with more questions than what I came with. Japan is truly a unique place, and people cant even begin to understand it until you've spent a good amount of time there. Marissa B - Clark University - Worcester View Entire Review
I learned more of the culture. I knew a little bit of the language already going in, but it was great hearing and learning the Kansai-ben. I also definitely improve my language overall. I learned more about myself and others, such that even though the world may seem as if no one can be trusted, many people have the same values as you do. It was an amazing experience and I hope that everyone can one day go abroad! A student - New Mexico State University View Entire Review
