The University of Botswana was founded in 1982. It has grown rapidly to an institution with 12,000 full-time undergraduates, 2,000 part-time students and 1,000 graduate students. The University is a comprehensive institution offering courses in both the liberal arts and sciences and a number of professional programs, including business, education, engineering and medicine. A majority of the academic staff members are from Botswana; however, many instructors also come from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, or other parts of the world.
