I am coming back Tianjin. Need I say more! Past Review
By Imrul A (Accounting and Related Services., University of East Anglia) - abroad from 07/13/2012 to 08/09/2013 with
INTO China - Tianjin: Nankai University
It was worth everything, I did not think once about the cost I had incurred. I certainly improved my level of confidence and it provided a massive boost in my aspirations. I now feel the rest of the world is at my doorstep.

Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 2 weeks - 1 month |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
This level of exposure in a short space of time has allowed me to understand the language and culture. This is an indicator of how effective the teaching was. The teachers were amazing and we had many enjoyable moments. The mentors and advisors, who were never far away, were the greatest. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
I received an agenda at the very beginning, we stuck to it and there was plenty we were doing to keep ourselves busy. Everything was taken care of, from traveling to being picked up and dropped off at the airport. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Very satisfied, spacious rooms, with a balcony and good facilities. |
* Food: |
I was particularly impressed the way the team had prepared to consider my halal dietary requirements, they had researched and prepared accordingly. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
It's pretty easy to fit in, just smile a lot and enjoy the hot weather. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
We were told everything we needed to know at the beginning and I had no issues throughout the month. |
* Safety: |
Tianjin is a very safe city to roam around in, I had no issues and people are very friendly. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
The necessities were very cheap compared to the UK, so I was amazed and also making the most of it. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Probably less than £30 |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
The program encourages it, but one's own curiosity is a bigger factor. |
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? | Beginner |
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? | Beginner in Mandarin |
How many hours per day did you use the language? | |
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | After the classes and activities, make sure you get outside the gates of the university and practice. Practicing while shopping is the ultimate way, I picked up the general phrases easily. |
