Personal Information

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The paper seems a bit long at first, but once you start writing you can't stop. Meetings are very involved and require active participation. This just means that you'll have more than enough to write about. Pay attention and all will be easy!!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The host companies enjoy having us as visitors. It takes a certain level of commitment to take a trip like this and the companies appreciate that. We were treated like professionals not students!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Incredible hotels!! Incredible locations! There is so much to eat, see, and do in the very near vicinity!

* Food:

I thought I loved Chinese food before I visited China. It turns out I had only sampled a small portion of it. Now I feel like I have a much deeper appreciation for it, but there is still much more to explore.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The markets in Beijing are so alive. Walking through them, I may have looked like a tourist, but I felt like a local.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Faculty supplied us with emergency contact cards for the local hospitals. I never needed to use this, but I knew that if I did need something i knew what to do.

* Safety:

We were told to stick together in groups of at least two, but I felt that it was not needed. Both cities are tourist friendly and I felt safe on my own!!

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Depending on where you eat, you could spend a lot less. Asking the tour guide for great, local, and inexpensive locations to eat is easy to do.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 150
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Tour guides can save you a ton. They know what markets charge the fairest prices and what restaurants are the best bang for your buck.
