Study abroad in Valparaiso, Chile on the Institute for Study Abroad's Chilean Universities Program, Valparaiso! Situated between the mountains and the sea, Valparaíso's cobbled streets and Victorian houses provide a unique setting to examine the economic and psychological factors that create Latin American politics. The city is famous for its charm and picture-perfect views, not to mention the passionate and edgy art scene and politically active student body. An optional internship complements your studies.

What the Chilean Universities Program has to offer:

  • Outstanding academics and unparalleled flexibility in course choice—you will choose courses from two outstanding universities: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and Universidad Santa María

  • Gain valuable experience while participating in an internship; options may include:

    • working with children and youth in community organizations

    • performing arts groups

    • working with the disabled

    • conducting marketing and outreach

    • working with the homeless

    • engaging in environmental and science education

  • Live like a local—take university classes integrated with degree-seeking Chilean students and live with a carefully selected Chilean host family

Statistics

IFSA Scholarships

Any student applying to an IFSA-Butler program can apply for our general scholarship awards, which are $500 for a summer program, $1,500 for semester study, and $2,000 for the full year. We also offer special opportunities such as First Generation College Student scholarships and a Fill the GAP study abroad savings program that matches contributions up to $1,000. Plus, any student attending a public institution or an MSI (minority serving institution) is automatically eligible for either the IFSA State School Grant or the IFSA MSI Grant. Both are worth $2,000 off the program price.

Guidelines/Requirements:
Any student who applies for an IFSA-Butler program may apply for a scholarship by completing a scholarship application. This is separate from the general IFSA-Butler program application.
