GEO: Oviedo - Study Abroad Programs in Oviedo

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It's as simple as this, I had no bad days in Spain. I loved the people who were in my group, I still hang out/Skype with people from my group and I plan on going back to Spain ASAP.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The teachers were great and were so helpful. I felt like I learned so much about the language and Spain in general while I was in school. The teachers also know that we are there to learn about Spain and to travel, so the workload was fairly light and allowed for a lot of travel and fun.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everything about this program is fantastic.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My host mother was AWESOME. She was so respectful of my time and what I wanted to do. I was allowed to travel, I was allowed to come and go as I pleased and I spent a ton of time with her learning about her family and watching Spanish TV. I was in a really nice part of town close to all the shopping and I was about 10 minutes away from all the clubs and bars.

* Food:

The food was great. My host mom always had delicious food ready for me, and when I wanted to go on an excursion she always packed me a FEAST!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The San Mateo Festival was definitely the best weekend I had in Oviedo, it was a giant party. The trips planned by AHA were so fun. We went to Sevilla and Bilbao and were really treated to a full tour.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The city was SO CLEAN and thankfully I never had to go to the doctors.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Since we were in an immersion program we spoke Spanish the entire time we were at school and at home with our host families. I spoke English with the other students in the program, but other than that Spanish was my main language.
