A student studying abroad with AHA International: Dublin - Summer Cultural Studies
I feel much more independent after studying abroad. I also am much more ope minded about other people's culture. I learned so much more being immersed in the culture. It made me want to travel the world and so far I have been, as I am writing this review from Italy! - Oakland University View Entire Review
I have been many places overseas. I started traveling in high school with my choirs or on missions projects with my church. I thought I was prepared to go into a different culture and confident that it wouldn't change me too much. On the contrary, I was changed and continued to change afterwards as I mulled over everything I lea... - Grand Valley State University View Entire Review
YES! After it ended, I was dying to go on another adventure, or stay longer in Dublin. The classroom setting was great, the group of students was small enough to get to know everyone. Everyone was so nice and helpful when you had a problem. You get long weekends to travel with friends and the bus system is great. It's so easy to... - Rider University View Entire Review

This program changed the way that I see myself and the way that I see the world. 5 weeks wasn't nearly long enough for me! I could have easily stayed in Ireland for months to follow. I am actually planning a trip back for the upcoming summer. Before going to Ireland I was terrified to travel on my own and now I can't wait to get... - Saginaw Valley State University View Entire Review
I wanted to experience a world where I could easily blend in while still learning new things. I noticed that the Irish population was very outgoing and started conversations with strangers while waiting in line. This friendly persona has come back with me to my school. - Saginaw Valley State University View Entire Review
I learned to be independent, and that there is a whole world out there that I want to get to know!! - Oakland University View Entire Review
I was incredibly satisfied with the program. I gained a better understanding of the world, and how they see Americans. I gained more in the sense that I have a more understanding nature than I had previously. I absolutely enjoyed this experience. It made me a better human being. It didn’t really change my academic goals, but it ... - Western Oregon University View Entire Review
I learned about the Irish culture and really enjoyed it! Coming from a small rural town, I gained confidence in navigating the city and using the transportation systems and made some new friends. It was a great experience! - Eastern Oregon University View Entire Review
I am moving to Ireland after I graduate in May 2012, just 10 short months after the program finished. The country was beautiful and it will be so easy to travel to other countries from Ireland. I am hoping to find an elementary teaching position. - Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College View Entire Review

I got to see the world for what it was, not what the media told me it was. I will never forget this trip or the information I learned while on it. After studying in Ireland I have decided multiple things. 1.) I will go back to Ireland some day. 2.) My children will study abroad. 3.) I will talk anyone into going if they show any... - Indiana State University View Entire Review
It made that place of the world constantly possible to travel to in the future. It helped my learn about what it means to be Irish. It expanded my knowledge of transatlantic history. I learned about Celtic folklore and Irish mythology. And finally, I learned about Tir na nOg, which is a Celtic Heaven. - Southern Oregon University View Entire Review

About

Individual programs available to non-UO students include:

  • Cinema Studies in Dublin: In this summer program, you will be immersed in cinema studies in Ireland. You will get to work both critically and creatively, taking courses on contemporary Irish cinema and digital filmmaking, as well as attending Ireland’s largest film festival held every year in Galway, the Film Fleadh. Weekly excursions and local outings in and around Dublin and the Irish countryside allow you to learn on location about the country’s rich film history and explore the sites where important historical events, and films about those events, took place. You will attend courses in Dún Laoghaire, a community on the outskirts of Dublin, and live with Irish families in homestays. The program fee includes excursions, the film festival, many other group cultural and social activities, full on-site support, and a program orientation
