Study Abroad at Florence University of the Arts Past Review

By (Elementary/ Special Education, Providence College) for

Fairfield University: Florence - Semester or Year in Italy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about myself and who I am as a person. I had a lot of time to reflect and think about my future goals while I was here. Being here made me appreciate all the things I take for granted at home and in America in general.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Castello D'Altafronte Great location right by the Uffizi. 5 minute walk to school. In an alley. A block in from the Ponte Vecchio. 5 girls in 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Great location except for loud club across the street and bad smell of the alley.

Many supermarkets. Not as much variety as US in case you have dietary restrictions look into it more carefully. Reasonably priced to eat out.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Most money will be spent on traveling and food. Try to plan cheap flights and stay in hostels.

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

I never knew Italian so I just learned a few phrases while being here.

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? The Fairfield Program is full of students very similar as you would find attending Providence. Be aware you may be housed in a group of people that are already very friendly with each other. However everyone I met was more than welcoming. This program has good choice options and many classes that count as electives.
