Dartmouth College: New Hampshire - Domestic Exchange Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I pursued personal research with a professor there and learned so much about myself and my academic interests. It is helping shape my decisions now as I prepare for grad school.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I would not have had the opportunity to experience what studying at a coed Ivy league institution is actually like prior graduate school. Personally, I wanted this experience in mind when it came time to apply for grad school programs.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Everyone is required to be on the student meal plan, unless you live off campus. This is more than enough food. Meals off campus can be expensive, but if you are involved orgs, many groups cater food from the same restaurants on Main Street.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The one-on-one attention from professors
  • The small classroom size (lends to great discussion dynamic)
  • The flexibility to explore different classes
* What could be improved?
  • The support during the first term
  • Check up support during the second or third term
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew that the university was part of a "small town" and more isolated than my home institution. The student communities can feel insular as a result, and increasingly so, the more time you spend there.
