I further developed my academic interest through this program by taking super interesting courses in my major and being able to connect with professionals and to visit cutting-edge institutions through the program. It was worthwhile. A student - Middlebury College View Entire Review
The majority of my time in the program was in remote Zoom classes due to COVID-related border protocols. These classes were fun, but not the study abroad experience I had hoped for. Finally getting to visit Denmark in the last few weeks of the semester, however, was incredible. Those ten days were thrilling, fast, and deeply joy... Om G - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I deeply appreciated the immersive component of our classes: we learned by doing and by being. It was by walking around neighborhoods, meeting with researchers, visiting museums, and carrying out field experiments that I was exposed to a wide range of conversations and concerns on economic/social/environmental sustainability, ra... The saying goes that you only can truly understand your own country when you leave it, and it really rang true during my time in Europe. Not only do you get the opportunity to meet Danes, but also students from all around the US and see the way others live outside of the US. It really broadened my lens to a global scale and made... I learned to be more independent. I made lots of friends, American, Danish, and other Europeans. I found myself. It was absolutely worthwhile. People often tell me that I seem more mature and more confident now. A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
I learned how valuable traveling is to developing one's independence, character, and new interests. There is so much to be learned from new places and the people you'll meet there. Every single cliché things you hear about the value of traveling is true. user014938 - Middlebury College View Entire Review

It was so valuable to learn about Danish culture. I learned quite a lot about American culture as well! The time difference between my friends/family at home was pretty isolating, but I gained a lot of valuable knowledge about myself and grew a sense of independence and maturity that I would not have otherwise done at my home un... I gained invaluable experience in the Danish education system, made amazing friends, and found a culture that I could see myself living in long-term in the future. I also gained more confidence and independence by being so far away from home. It was absolutely a worthwhile experience! A student - Wellesley College View Entire Review
How to live on my own in a foreign country, learned about another culture and how they handle different situations and and look at different topics, became critical of my own country. It was a worthwhile experience. A student - Brandeis University View Entire Review
How to bike in a major city (that was also made for biking as commute). How to cook for myself and ration groceries and money. DIS - Study Abroad Scholarships
This merit-based award honors a beloved former DIS faculty member, Jacob Buksti, who passed away in 2016. Jacob built a strong legacy in modern Danish politics and made a deep impact on the hundreds of DIS students he taught from 2003 to 2016. Jacob served the Danish Social Democratic Party as a parliamentarian, party spokesperson, and Minister of Transportation during an impressive political career, and he was deeply devoted to sharing his work and passion with U.S. students at DIS. He loved being a politician and, even more than the theories and policy study that fueled his coursework, was passionate about the living, breathing game of European domestic and international politics. We offer this scholarship of up to $10,000 each semester to a deserving DIS Copenhagen or DIS Stockholm student who exhibits: A major in political science, international relations, government, public policy, economics, or a related field Passion about pursuing a career in politics An understanding of the work it takes to be actively engaged to advance yourself and your mission, interest in European/EU politics, and awareness that effective politics has many avenues A high GPA, strong personal essay, and recommendation from a professor or academic advisor Note: summer awards are not offered for this scholarship at this time.
