About

City & Guilds of London Art School is a small independent University-sector college in London with renowned undergraduate and postgraduate Historic Wood & Stone Carving, Conservation, and Contemporary Fine Art courses. We have strong links with the British Museum, the Palace of Westminster, the V & A, St Paul's Cathedral, and the Royal Collections Trust amongst many others.

We now welcome semester Study Abroad students to our undergraduate Historic Carving, Conservation and Fine Art programmes for a period of between 10 weeks and 6 months, starting in September or January.

Our Architectural Stone Carving, and Woodcarving and Gilding courses provide an invaluable Study Abroad experience for architecture, craft, and historic preservation students. Our courses were established in 1879 and we play a crucial role in keeping alive the skills essential for preserving the world's most important monuments and buildings.

Our Conservation course specialises in the conservation and restoration of 3D cultural objects in stone, wood, plaster and terracotta.  The teaching of decorative surface techniques such as gilding, polychromy, lacquer and japanning, and the conservation of ornate frames, are integral to the course.

Our Fine Art course is one of the most challenging and creative courses you can study. We include contemporary and historic skills, theories and materials; art histories; visual and contextual research; and entrepreneurship and project management.
