CISabroad (Center for International Studies): Reviews from Former Locations

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Studying in the United Kingdom opened a whole new world for me. I have gained a love of traveling and adventure and I want to continue in the future. I wish more planning had been done by CIS to help everyone transition and have the necessary funds and equipment to ensure success by the program, but overall I loved the program and would love to go back to the United Kingdom again.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I enjoyed the classes and did not think the workload was overwhelming. I liked the emphasis of the class on the experience of the locations as opposed to an overemphasis on the course content.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I enjoyed the location of the program and the accessibility of the professors and people assisting us in the host country. I did NOT recieve enough information about the courses or the arrangements before I left through CIS. I was unaware I needed books and I was given no intinerary or other information about what we would be doing or where we would be going throughout the six weeks. This was very frustrating and would have been good knowledge to know before I left.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I enjoyed the places I was able to stay in.

* Food:

We had some food included in the program, but it would have been more food included in the price.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I was able to see so many different notable locations and places. I loved seeing the Scottish highlands and many of the cities in Ireland and England. This part of the experience was unbelievable and I loved it.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The safety of the area depended where we were. Some areas we traveled were safer than others but overall, everything was ok. The United Kingdom is similar to the Unites States with respect to safety.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
