I had such an amazing time! July 11, 2022

By (Film, Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/12/2022 to 05/13/2022 with

CET Film Production at FAMU

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained so many practical film skills that my school would otherwise never be able to give me. I learned the ins and outs of a 16 mm film camera and learned what is was like to work on a film set/crew. I fell in love with Prague and made the best friends. I want to go back to live in Prague after I graduate!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The work itself was not hard whatsoever but the classes were so long for seemingly no reason. Most of what we learned could have easily been shortened instead of having very long sessions on inconvenient days (sometimes weekends)/hours. The work itself was very manageable, though.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My apartment was one of the smallest/least modern in the whole program despite it being a 6 person apartment. However, that did not hinder my experience at all. I had such a great time in (even through quarantining) and I loved my roommates so much.

* Food:

Even though the Czech food itself was not my favorite, all the other foods were so delicious and cheap.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I was running out of a medication and contacted health insurance 2 weeks before I would have no more. They never responded to me and I ran out with no one to prescribe me more. I contacted them at least 5 times a day and told them it was an emergency and they still never helped me. I then contacted my program to ask what to do and they didn't help me either. I ended up finding a doctor on my own who was excellent and helped me immediately. I had to be off my medication for 4 days and it effected me very negatively.

* Safety:

I felt extremely safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Prague is so so so so so cheap!!!!

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 75 dollars

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Beginner
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? N/A
How many hours per day did you use the language?
