Busy and fun February 16, 2022

By (CS/ CAMS, Wellesley College) - abroad from 09/13/2021 to 12/31/2021 with

CET Film Production at FAMU

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about the filmmaking process and Czech culture. It was worthwhile for me in the sense that I had a chance to explore an area of the world I likely would not have otherwise and picked up a lot of film experiences.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

I think while the program did the things it focused on really well (i.e. film production teaching/ exposure), I would have wanted an experience that was more integrated with meeting local students and practicing language skills.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? ~$150 because I would eat out for most meals
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? If you chose to cook for yourself or picked more local food places, Prague was incredibly student budget friendly.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

  • The Independence + Support
* What could be improved?
  • Integration with local people/ students
  • More facilitated trips beyond Prague
  • Meeting more of the local film community/ talks with local experts + workers
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I had known how hard it is to break out of your bubble when you study and live with the same group of American students. While part of this may have been due to the pandemic, I would have loved to perhaps have living arrangements with different people and more mixed classes.
