Great Program. Prague is incredible. Jiri and Katka rock! Past Review

By (Economics, Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/21/2016 to 06/09/2016 with

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It absolutely worthwhile. I think the majority of what I learned and gained abroad revolved around personal growth rather than the kind of intellectual growth I might have had at Brandeis. Of course, academically it was incredible to learn about Communism and European History in the places these things actually happened. It really opens your eyes to different perspectives.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

For the most part, the classes were really interesting. There was not a ton of work outside of class. However, you did have to attend class a lot more than you are required to at an American University. My favorite class was called Resistance and Dissent. It was taught by a really cool women whose band is actually relatively well known in the Czech Republic. I absolutely hated a class I took called World Financial Markets or something... It was taught by a guy i really did not get on with. If you are uncomfortable hearing pretty sexist things in a classroom setting I would not recommend this class.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I loved the Program Directors and I know all the other students did too. Jiri and Katka are so cool to hang out with and were great resources and mentors for our time abroad.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Great location, nice big apartment.

* Food:

Loved the food there! Vegan/Vegetarian food is very easy to come by and super cheap. You could get a nice meal for 4 or 5 bucks.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I ate out almost every meal because it was so cheap. We were given transportation passes so we never had to worry about paying that. A night out was also super cheap.. you'd probably only spend like 5-10 bucks.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 100

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Beginner
How many hours per day did you use the language? 0
