A Connection to Remember Past Review

By (University of San Diego) - abroad from 08/24/2017 to 12/07/2017 with

CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Buenos Aires, Argentina

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about myself through getting out of my comfort zone, specifically with the language barrier that initially intimidated me. I am proud of how much I have picked up with my Spanish and how much more confident of a traveller I am now.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The Culture of Food and Wine class was definitely the highlight!... Field trips to a cafe, a butcher, an olive oil tasting, wine tasting, a barbecue...

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

CEA staff were very friendly and helpful.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived with an amazing host mom, with her labrador retriever and cat, in my own room with my own bathroom!

* Food:

A bit difficult to avoid meat :(

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I got a throat infection at one point during my time but I got penicillin from a pharmacy without a prescription to treat it.

* Safety:

I hate how many catcalls I get, constantly as I am walking around the city, a lot of the time by old men. Other than that I feel safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Next time I would want to go to a place away from the city. I realized that my happy place is somewhere green, quiet, and calm, which Buenos Aires was not for me.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $120
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Use the free bike-share program, Ecobici!

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
