I learned a lot about myself and about others, taught me to appreciate my own culture as well as other cultures, more. - Colorado State University View Entire Review
It was so worthwhile, I learned the importance of seeing. And seeing in the way of not just watching my surroundings but attentively searching for details and the reasons behind why things exist around me in the way that they do. I have a new set of eyes. - Southern Illinois University - Carbondale View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile. I wish everyone could study abroad. There is no better way to learn a new language / culture than to actually go to that country. - Covenant College View Entire Review
I gained so much from the experience. Aside from the obvious language and culture training, I met lifelong friends. My roommate from Aix will even be in my wedding next summer! But most importantly, I learned how to function completely on my own. - University of Kentucky View Entire Review

I gained a lot from this. It was so great being in this beautiful city with great people and amazing program directors. They were so helpful and available for us! Being in another country for 4 months is really rewarding in so many ways. - Auburn University View Entire Review
People that study abroad are all similar in a way. I found that everyone was a "yes" kind of person. They said yes to last minute planned weekend trips, once in a life time experiences, and things that scare them. I had been searching for people like that all my life and I found them! As for Aix, you have my heart. The constant ... - University of Tennessee - Knoxville View Entire Review

I can't put into words everything I learned and gained from this experience. To name some, I learned a lot about the French language and culture in Aix and surrounding cities, learned how to assimilate into a foreign culture, gained a lot of new friends, and had experiences that I will remember forever. It was definitely worth... - Iowa State University View Entire Review
I really enjoyed my language course because I was in such a diverse class, which gave me such a distinct experience. There were students from at least four different countries, from youth to middle-aged students who were all there to learn French for different reasons, not just to study abroad. It made me open my eyes and feel e... - Soka University of America View Entire Review
I had not really left the country before. In addition to that, I had not done a lot of traveling outside of the north eastern states. I was meeting a lot of people like me, who have had similar experiences to me. Spending an extended period of time nearly 4,000 miles away from everything I have known for the past 21 years really... - The College of New Jersey View Entire Review
I learned to be more independent and became more confident in speaking French - Covenant College View Entire Review
Again....BEST TIME OF MY LIFE. I realized while abroad that just like when learning languages, you have to work hard in life for what you love. Working hard for those things will always be worthwhile! Always! - University of South Carolina - Columbia View Entire Review
I learned a lot about myself and gained confidence in traveling alone. It was the best experience of my collegiate career so far I wish I could do the semester over again. - Seton Hall University View Entire Review
As dramatic/cheesy as it may sound, my summer abroad in France was the best summer of my life. I knew it would likely be a very neat experience, but I underestimated just how life-changing it would actually turn out to be. My linguistic skills improved dramatically - in ways that I am not sure would have been possible without im... - Texas A&M University - College Station View Entire Review
I got the opportunity to meet students from all over the world. I learned how to get by in a country where I only minimally spoke the language. I learned how to problem solve and be independent. It was definitely worthwhile. - Northeastern University View Entire Review
This was absolutely a worthwhile experience. I feel like I gained a lot of independence/just became generally better at taking initiative and doing things for myself. It is a testing time, you're away from everything that is familiar to you. This forces you to make new bonds and forge new connections with all kinds of people, wh... - Soka University of America View Entire Review

About

Spend a summer, a semester, or an academic year in Aix-en-Provence and discover for yourself why the French refer to Aix as the most desirable French city to call home. It may be small, but Aix boasts all the amenities of a larger city, while still retaining all of its charm. With a student-centered atmosphere, stunning natural scenery, winding streets lined with cafés and boutiques, and enough festivals, pubs, concerts, and theaters to keep residents busy year-round, it's easy to see what makes Aix the ideal setting in which to hone your French language skills and immerse in local culture. At our partner institution, Aix Marseille University, you'll attend classes - taught in French - with other international students. At Institute for American Universities (IAU), you'll join French and other international students to take liberal arts or studio arts courses to meet your academic, career, and personal interests. Take full advantage of your surroundings through hands-on cultural activities like volunteering and excursions to sites such as Avignon, Arles, and Camargue.
