I am so glad I went to Sydney. January 12, 2020

By (Middlebury College) - abroad from 08/10/2019 to 12/14/2019 with

Arcadia: Sydney - University of New South Wales

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I got to feel what it was like to live independently in a city. While it was not encouraged to live in an apartment with other Middlebury students it was the best decision I made. It was a great change of pace to not be in a small-town, living in dorms, and I became much closer with the Middlebury students there.

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I am SO glad I lived in my own independent accommodations. Living in the campus housing is not a good way to meet people because all exchange students live with friends they came with and local students don't really live on campus.

* Food:

Cooked for myself and went out to eat.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $200
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Cook your own food, eating out is expensive- especially in Sydney
