Overall Experience
I travelled a lot while abroad and this was an amazing experience. This made studying abroad worthwhile. - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I gained a greater sense of independence and faith in my abilities. It pushed me to make friends, get involved, and explore things I wouldn't normally try. - Trinity University View Entire Review
I think just in general when you're out of your social norms and comfort zone you learn so much about yourself (I know, cheesy). I think I grew and learned more about what I believe by being in different cultures both in Scotland and in other countries. It's important to travel and learn and I think that while I did learn inside... - Bucknell University View Entire Review
Studying abroad at St. Andrews is very worthwhile. Although it is in Scotland, there are many American students, so you do not feel to far away from home. Also, it is a very easy train ride from St. Andrews to Edinburgh or London and then to the rest of Europe. Being abroad, I learned what the European education system was lik... - Brandeis University View Entire Review
I learned a lot about myself and how I handle situations. I had a lot more independence over there and I think I learned a lot from it. - Middlebury College View Entire Review
I wouldn't trade my experience for anything in the world. It was utterly unforgettable! - Drake University View Entire Review
Looking back on it I kind of wish I would have gone to a warmer and more culturally distinct country like Spain. I do not enjoy cold weather even though I am from Sweden. I am happy I studied in Scotland though, I learned a lot about myself and their educational system. I feel like I have become a more efficient student because ... - Trinity University View Entire Review

My experience was very worthwhile, and I am very glad I did it. It taught me independence and gave me confidence in my ability to travel on my own as well as succeed in a very rigorous academic setting. - Saint Anselm College View Entire Review
I learned a lot about myself and became more independent. It was interesting to see how I handled traveling alone and stressful situations but it all turned out well and I learned so much! - Trinity University View Entire Review
A student studying abroad with Arcadia: St. Andrews - University of St Andrews
I gained a new sense of perspective while abroad and I learned from my peers. I think I personally grew a bit too. Being thrown once again into a new country and environment only helped make me more confident and I feel like I am a lot stronger after the program. I have also made some great friends while abroad whom I am very gr... - Brandeis University View Entire Review

About

As Scotland’s oldest university, established in the early part of the fifteenth century, St. Andrews boasts a proud heritage of excellence, demonstrated by its motto, “Ever to Excel;” its prestige as the most international of Scotland’s universities (with applicants from 169 countries); its reputation for exemplary teaching and research; its high post-graduation employment rate; and its continually positive level of student retention and satisfaction.

Unique traditions that developed alongside its long history, along with more than 140 societies you can join, and its presence in a place where there is considerable integration between university and town, ensure that you will feel part of the community and will develop a deep affinity for it. The University is  located in a picturesque coastal town, which is home to two beautiful beaches. The town of St. Andrews is also the historic birthplace of the 18-hole round game of golf, which was created at the Old Course in 1764 - a refinement of a Scottish game developed in the 15th century.
St. Andrews has particular strengths in humanities and the sciences. In addition, courses in sustainable development, and terrorism and political violence are of note.
