By (Brandeis University) - abroad from 09/11/2021 to 12/18/2021 with

Arcadia: London - London Internship Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Time management was improved, financial planning, and living on my own.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I did have one professor who refused to adapt his teaching style to a more inclusive method of teaching. It was frustrating as he insisted that in England, study guides for exams did not exist, nor did office hours or any other kind of support for students who were somewhat struggling in class. He was also somewhat passive aggressive in how he spoke to us and did little to clarify on assignments when asked.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

simply fantastic, supportive, and accommodating.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My studio was beautiful, spacious, and exactly what I needed for my religious accommodations. Can't complain!

* Food:

We didn't have food provided, so I can't really rate this, but we were given lots of guidance on good grocery stores etc.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Very! It was amazing to live in the city and attend school there, and classes did an extra-amazing job of bringing us into the city itself.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

the program both supported me and put me in contact with healthcare, as well as supporting me when I needed to go to the ER for an emergency.

* Safety:

Just make sure to keep your belongings to yourself and travel in groups. But overall, it was pretty safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I felt incredibly supported and I loved being able to intern in London, becoming a part of the community and living on my own in a new country.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

London is an expensive city to live in, but if you search for enough deals and student prices, it's not too bad!
