Arcadia: London - London Internship Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about a culture I had no knowledge on. I learned independence and confidence. I am more comfortable with doing things by myself now.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Terrible Administration. Unorganized and lazy.

* Housing:

Clean, but horrible location.

No food was provided by the program.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

London is completely safe. I never experienced pick pocketing. Transportation is very easy. Every speaks english (obviously) which was especially helpful.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

1 NOT EASY. London is one of the most expensive cities in the world. The exchange rate for the pound is horrible.

* Was housing included in your program cost? Yes
* Was food included in your program cost? No
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? +$3000 and up
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Prepare your own meals on weeknights or whenever possible. Walking is the cheapest way to get around. Transportation is expensive!! Alcohol is expensive also.

* What could be improved?
  • More help from the administrators, they were very lazy. Everything required by the program was especially inconvenient. The internship sucked.
