Arcadia: Dunedin - University of Otago

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned to be much more independent. I also learned that I thrive on adventuring, and do not like to be stuck in the same place for a long time. This experience was very worthwhile, and I honestly wish I could do it again.

* Housing:

Fun and clean.

* Food:

Expensive but good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

Had a lot of American friends but also some Kiwi friends.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Was never an issue for me.

* Safety:

Always felt safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Arcadia helped me easily transition to life in New Zealand without being overbearing. The program facilitated friendships but allowed me to create my own relationships outside of it.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It was quite expensive and I should have budgeted better.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $80-$100

* What could be improved?
  • More interaction and activities at the end of the semester
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew that I would have to work very hard to keep in touch with all of my friends at home. I got distracted by everything that was going on in New Zealand and forgot to stay in touch with my friends.
