Overall Experience
I gained so much knowledge about the city itself, the culture, the experiences, the ways of life that varies across the population in many ways. Because our program was so long (5 months instead of 3/3.5 like some) I felt like I was fully immersed and got to know everything about cape town (if thats even possible), which I think... - Denison University View Entire Review
Dear South Africa, You made me fall in love with you South Africa. I’m sorry it has to end it now, I promise I really didn’t want to. Just so you know it’s me not you. I know people say that a lot, but I am serious. It’s so serious that my passport had an expiration date for us. I knew, we knew, that this day was ... - Arcadia University View Entire Review
Definitely worthwhile. Learned that I love traveling, and that there is so much more of the world to see. Gained more confidence and grew up a lot over the trip - Davidson College View Entire Review
I learned a great deal about the country and what is has to offer both international and local people. - Fordham University View Entire Review
Very worthwhile. An amazing experience being there in the buildup to the world cup and into the beginning of the games. I had so much fun and saw a completely different part of the world. I wouldn't trade anything for it. - Tufts University View Entire Review

Yes - great experience, but I'm not indebted to the program for that. It only brought me here; I was for the most part responsible for finding the types of experiences I wanted, as they differed significantly from the party-and-drink program culture (more due to the students than anything else). I'm sure many other students from... - Rice University View Entire Review
I learned a lot about another culture and met amazing people who will always have an impact on me. It was 100% worthwhile and I am so lucky to have been given this opportunity. I will be talking about this experience for the rest of my life. - Chapman University View Entire Review
Past Review Awesome!
I learned that there is much more to a person than religion or politics. I gained a cultural experience that I wouldn't have been able to receive anywhere else. - Arcadia University View Entire Review

My 5 months abroad were the most worthwhile experience of my life so far. I was able to learn about other cultures around the world as well and gain new perspectives and view points for my own life. - Trinity University View Entire Review
Gave me a broader cultural perspective. Raised questions about how people from diverse cultural backgrounds can get along. Forced me to act outside of my comfort zone on a regular basis. Definitely worth it - one of the coolest things I have ever done. - Trinity University View Entire Review
Past Review
The experience was extremely worthwhile. I didn't feel like it was very academic, so it didn't change my academic interests, but I wasn't looking for that. It defintely made me more aware of what it is like to live in a developing country. - Rice University View Entire Review

About

Established in 1829 as a high school for boys and obtaining university status by the 1880’s, University of Cape Town (UCT) is South Africa’s oldest, and most prestigious, university. With over 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and international students from more than 80 countries (including 22 other countries in Africa), UCT hosts more study abroad students than any other university in South Africa, and is committed to a mission of diversity and transformation.

Its values encompass the promotion of equal opportunity for all as it strives to safeguard human rights, reflect the country’s demographics, redress past injustices, and meet the development needs of South Africa’s emerging democracy.

The campus itself is located on the side of Table Mountain, and boasts  stunning vistas from every angle. The Arcadia program includes one Cornerstone Course with associated co-curricular excursions, South Africa: History, Politics, and Culture

You’ll also enroll in up to three other courses from a comprehensive range of faculties and departments at UCT. Popular course choices are drawn from the departments of Political Science, Sociology, Music, and Language, to name but a few.

The Arcadia Cape Town Center is located right on campus at UCT, where you can find support and resources to enhance your program experience. Socially, you can be a part of any of 100 clubs and societies through the university

Arcadia strives to provide a holistic and reflective experience for South African program students, both through the thoughtful co-curricular program component, and by encouraging you to add courses and experiences that get you involved with local communities and service efforts.
