I can't answer this question well without way more time and thought. Too much to get into. Yes, it was more than worthwhile. - Sarah Lawrence College View Entire Review
This program is really incredible. The small town vibe was exactly what I needed in my life, coupled with some travel in-country (an amazing field trip with hiking to waterfalls and the best food in the country!) The student group was exceptional, the emphasis on individual apprenticeships invaluable, and feeling like a real par... - Antioch University – Seattle View Entire Review
For me, the program was perfect and I couldn't have asked for better structure or a more dually challenging and rewarding experience. - Carleton College View Entire Review
It was more than I could have ever imagined. I gained a lot artistically and in my field of fashion design, but I think I gained more about myself. Living and becoming a part of a family was the key to making this experience so meaningful. I made real relationships and was truly integrated into the culture. - Virginia Commonwealth University View Entire Review

About

Cultural immersion in Cameroon through arts apprenticeships and homestays.

The Arts and Culture in Cameroon program allows students to expand their creative faculties in the visual and performing arts in an enriching cross-cultural learning environment. Students develop a foundation for global citizenship while learning about traditional and contemporary Cameroonian lifestyles and customs. Participants live and work with local artists, artisans, musicians, and dancers, study French, and explore indigenous, Christian, Islamic, colonial, and global influences on current social conditions.

Artistic apprenticeships, rigorous study, group arts workshops, extended homestays, an independent project, gifted guest lecturers, and focused field trips are integrated into an exciting multi-faceted educational experience that supports each participant’s personal and intellectual growth.

Program Director Nick Hockin collaborates with a well-developed network of artists, musicians, dancers, artisans, intellectuals, and on-site staff to create an inspiring program that is safe, challenging, and locally respected.
