Freie Universität Berlin is an international network university and a leading research institution founded in 1948 on the principals of freedom, justice, and truth. Since its founding, the university has maintained a large network of international partnerships and ties; approximately 18% of the university's students are international students. The university ranks 88th in the world on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018.The Law Department of Freie Universität Berlin hosts up to 150 exchange students every year. With more than 2,700 students, it is one of the largest law departments in Germany, so students can choose from a large selection of courses in law spanning from classic to modern issues in law. The department is divided into three academic units: Civil Law, Criminal Law, and Public Law.
