Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I thought that the educational experience was overall good. The teachers were knowledgable and the courses were taught in a complete structure. However, I wish the professors and the IFSA Coordinators were able to communicate messages across to the students better.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The host country program administration was easy to follow and allowed students to adjust comfortably into the new environment.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing in the dorms were fantastic. The rooms were clean and spacious.

* Food:

I personally loved the food in China and thought that I learned a lot about the country's culture through the food experiences I had during my time abroad. Furthermore, because China is still a developing country, food and other materials are relatively cheaper.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt that the local culture wasn't as easy as people may have thought it was to integrate myself into due to the language barrier. Towards the end of the program I was able to communicate at an elementary level with locals.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I personally didn't have any health issues but I know of other peers on the program that were able to quickly access premium healthcare.

* Safety:

Although the neighborhood our dorms were in was on the outskirts of the city, the city of Shanghai was overall very safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I believe that the neighborhood we were in, in combination with the specific coordinators, teachers, and students made my overall study abroad experience unforgettable.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 50-100

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None

What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? none
How many hours per day did you use the language?
