Academic Studies Abroad: Study Abroad in Dublin, Ireland

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained so much. I came back with an even greater appreciation of everything in my life, I came back with new friends I don't go a day without talking with, I came back being a mild world traveler, I came back a better version of myself compared to who I was before it started. It was the most worthwhile thing I have ever done.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Academics were easy, Griffith is a little unorganized.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Olwyn has the key to my heart.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Apartment style, best roommate, keep you on the same floor with other ASA and American students.

* Food:

Had to cook on our own but food was easy to find.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Wish we were able to meet more Irish students.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Easily accessible, program gave us our health insurance, Olwyn always asked to go to Dr. with us so we wouldn't be alone.

* Safety:

Griffith is a gated school, Dublin overall is very safe, I never felt unsafe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

ASA was so easy to work with. They were extremely helpful in the application process and kept in touch with me before, during and after my time abroad. The excursions included in our tuition were crucial in the experience I had in Ireland. It helped me make my now lifelong friends and it helped me get a view of the rest of Ireland, not just Dublin.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Easy to maintain a budget if you stick with it.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $100-$150
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't shop at stores they have in the U.S. and don't eat out during the week! Save the spending for the weekend!
