Yonsei University: Yonsei International Summer School

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
i was exposed to new cultures and got to experience that for 2 months of summer. through the program, i learned to be more accepting of people.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

the workload was a bit much considering we were in a new city. the teaching methods were much like the ones in america, and there really was no difference between the american educational system and the system in which we learned in in seoul.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The classes could have a little less workload because it is a class abroad and many of the students were not looking to be studying so much.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

i did not see very many choices for students with dietary restrictions

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

the trip to busan was the highlight of my stay in south korea.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

the safety was good throughout the program. the school is not in a bad neighborhood so i felt safe even coming back to the dorms at 5 in the morning.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 50-150 dollars a week
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? that i could have possibly not gotten any UCR grant. I wish i knew that i only had to take 2 classes for the financial aid disbursement. I wish my disbursement came sooner and financial aid was not so complicated. I wish that the financial aid office was more productive with their students already abroad.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? i would tell them to get ready to have fun because this is one of the biggest programs that uceap does. i met people from all over the us as well as all over the world. an outgoing student that loves to travel and experience new things would be perfect for this program.
