USAC China: Shanghai - Chinese Language and International Business

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
China was awesome but I feel like I kind of wasted a semester. I love learning and I barely learned anything during the semester.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I was bored in all of my classes and didn't learn anything. I'm honestly a little surprised my school accepts credits from this program.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

It is very organized but the classes are boring. Also, there is no campus life whatsoever which was a disappointment.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

there weren't very many things organized by the program. it was up to students to find things to do. there was nothing to do on-campus so if we wanted to do something it usually required a metro ride that was up to an hour long.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

it's safe but pay attention for pick-pockets

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

with my Chinese teacher. I had to use Mandarin every day to get around. Most people did not speak English.
