While in Victoria, I was able to learn how to be truly on my own (and love it!) and connect with nature in a completely different way. I think it's important for everyone to study abroad somewhere. Canada suited my needs perfectly. Not only that but my roommate was French and she had friends from Spain, Portugal, and Belgium to name a few.
