A summer in Brighton, UK: The perfect way to get summer credits completed! Past Review

University of Sussex: Brighton - International Summer School

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Absolutely! I my class was interesting and fulfilled a prerequisite for graduate school, I was able to immerse myself into true English culture (something I don't think you can achieve truly in London), and I had the opportunity to travel to Scotland for a weekend. My only recommendation would be to do this program for the full summer rather than just half the summer. One month went by so fast and I didn't want to leave!

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I only took one course, and it was a psychology course. It was very discussion-based since the class only had 8 people. For humanities, I highly recommend it, but you will have to talk to someone else if you are interested in the sciences since those classes tend to be bigger.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Most of it was student-led and they had activities for us every night. Everything was very well thought out and it was a very rewarding experience.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Everything is provided to you. I lived in a single with a full kitchen and it was a GORGEOUS facility.

* Food:

You have to be willing to try new things, so I had no problem with the food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Sussex arranges day trips to London, Bath, Stonehenge, and practically any other surrounding town in England you can think of. During one of the sessions, there is a 3-day trip to Paris where you take the Chunnel.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Direct Enrollment
