University of Sheffield: Sheffield - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned that engineering is the same no matter what country you are from, just the methods of testing your comprehension a little different. Totally worth while.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Engineering course load was different than I was used to, no homework, final grade determined only by final exam. I had tutoring resources explained to me by the mechanical engineering department, but I never used them. My professors were approachable, and were willing and able to answer my academic questions in person or by email.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Besides orientation, there wasn't much else they had for us.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The dorms were really nice, but I lived only with international students. I would have preferred to live with English students to get to know them better.

* Food:

Its not what I was used to, but it wasn't terrible.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It took a lot of work on your part to make friends with English students in your classes, or if you lived with them that made it easier.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I always felt safe on campus.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I already had paid for dorm food, but I spent a lot on traveling.

* Was housing included in your program cost? Yes
