University of Salamanca: Salamanca - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, but a different program would have been more beneficial.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The Universidad de Salamanca classes are beneficial, fun, and have a very light workload. The program classes are harder and more work.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The Universidad de Salamanca was incredible, and I got a great education there in my month, but the program excursions (not related to the Universidad de Salamanca) and classes were rushed, unorganized, and centered around a small part of the country. I got to see very little of Spain.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing was perfectly fine.

* Food:

Very hard for vegetarians to eat in Spain and in the dorms. Go out for tapas. The dorm food was pretty good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Madrid is amazing -- go to the Reina Sofia and El Prado if you can.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you aren't used to being on your own at night in a city, don't leave the group when you go out dancing. And don't overdrink. I stocked up on Emergen-C's before I left and didn't get sick, but a lot of people got colds.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Practiced Spanish in class and around the city, but many other students wanted to speak English together.
