Hertford College at Oxford - It's challenging, but amazing Past Review

University of Oxford - Visiting Students

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I can't even explain how wonderful this was. Really, if you have any interest at all, and you're a good student, go for it. It's challenging, but amazing. And do two terms, if you can; just one doesn't feel like enough.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The William and Mary program is slightly different from the normal Hertford College experience, but it was close enough that I felt like part of the group. WM's program is actually more challenging than the norm, and I found it very invigorating.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

They put you in the Graduate Centre, which is REALLY nice (single rooms with ensuite toilet and shower) but a bit far away, a good 12-15 minute walk to college.

* Food:

Restaurants are great, hall food's satisfactory, and dinner in the graduate centre's usually pretty good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Hertford is incredibly friendly.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

No problems at all.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Mostly spent my money on souvenirs and fun stuff. You can get by with almost no money, but I recommend having some cash. There's too much fun stuff to do!

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Fluent
